The House

Escape to Wanyari, a contemporary beach house retreat overlooking the sparkling Pacific Ocean and adjacent World Heritage National Park. Enjoy spectacular views of the waves breaking on beautiful Orchid Beach, bush wilderness, sandblows and nearby Waddy Point.

The 3 level elevated house has a relaxed but contemporary feel. The lower and upper living levels have wide decks the full width of the house for outdoor relaxing. A spiral staircase leads up to our rooftop lookout deck where you will be blown away by some of the best panoramic ocean views on the island from Waddy Point to Sandy Cape. It is about 400 metres to beautiful Orchid Beach from the house.

 

The upper level is airy open-plan living with kitchen, dining and lounge. A huge stainless steel kitchen island allows room for the whole family to join in preparing your catch of the day. The master bedroom is on this level, with ensuite and views. The outlook from all windows on this upper level is spectacular with views over bush, ocean and along the beach to Waddy Point.

 

The lower level is a great place to retreat to for some quiet time and has 3 large bedrooms (2 with queen beds, 1 with one set of single bunks and one single bed), its own TV / living room, bathroom with bath, separate toilet and laundry.

The word ‘wanyari’ is an adaptation of the word ‘wanari’ or ‘wangari’ which is a Batjala word for dingo.

 

  • Accommodates a maximum of 8 guests including children or 6 singles.

  • 4 bedrooms with ceiling fans, 2 living areas, high set, 4 metre wide decks on each level with lookout deck at roof level.

  • 24 hour self-sufficient power from solar panels, batteries and inverter set- up with auto diesel generator backup.

  • Beautiful pure Fraser Island water from a spear pump on the property. Safe to drink.

  • Kitchen has upright gas stove and oven, 2 fridges (1 x 460 & 1 x 470 litres), microwave, and stainless steel work benches. Crockery, cutlery, glasses, utensils, pots and pans all provided.

  • Living areas on each level have a TV with DVD player, and there is a CD player upstairs with MP3 input for your iPOD. There is also a small library of books, magazines, DVD’s and kid’s games for you to enjoy during your stay.

  • Polished timber floors throughout. Tiled wet areas.

  • Gas BBQ on middle deck / upper living level.

  • Old style wood BBQ with grate for boiling mudcrabs and lobsters at bottom of block near the blue shed. Stainless steel fish-cleaning table here also.

  • Bedroom 1 - Upper level - Queen bed, open robe / shelving, ceiling fan, reading lights.

  • Bedroom 2 - Lower level - Queen bed, open robe / shelving, ceiling fan, reading lights.

  • Bedroom 3 - Lower level - Queen bed, open robe / shelving, ceiling fan, reading lights.

  • Bedroom 4 - Lower level - One set of single bunks and one single bed, built in robe, ceiling fan.

  • All beds have mattress and pillow protectors, pillows, a doona with doona cover and blankets. Please note: You must BYO sheets, pillow cases, towels, beach towels. 

  • Bathroom downstairs - separate bath, vanity, shower. Separate toilet.

  • Ensuite upstairs - shower, vanity, separate/ two-way toilet.

  • Laundry - Washing machine, tub, deep freezer. Clothes-line on lower deck.

  • Plenty of parking space for 4WDs, trailers and boats.

  • Garden/lawn sprinkler system operates automatically.

  • There is no phone in the house. Telstra mobiles work at Orchid Beach but other networks have no service.
